Student problems

I have a student that is having trouble fitting in with the rest of her class. She does not relate well to other students and hides behind her mother and father when she is in trouble. Throughout the course of the past few weeks I have seen her get into trouble many times. Every time she gets into trouble her mom and dad come to save her and fix the problem.

This is my question: what can be done to make her take responsibility for her actions?

  1. That does sound like a big problem, sometimes teenagers just need to figure things out for themselves and you can't tell them what to do.

  2. Mom and Dad won't be there forever. I think sooner than later your student will learn the consequences to her actions and perhaps see the error of her ways.

  3. I often find that instead of focusing on her problems and when she gets in trouble and enlarging the problem just treat her like every other student in your class, that way she doesn't get the attention she's looking for.
