Student problems

I have a student that is having trouble fitting in with the rest of her class. She does not relate well to other students and hides behind her mother and father when she is in trouble. Throughout the course of the past few weeks I have seen her get into trouble many times. Every time she gets into trouble her mom and dad come to save her and fix the problem.

This is my question: what can be done to make her take responsibility for her actions?

Learning Names

I am finding it hard to remember all the students names in my classes. I know that we just started the term but I still struggle with some students because they are not very vocal in the classroom. I am looking for ways that will help me to remember students other than always looking at the roster.

What are some different ways that I could use to help me learn the student’s names faster and more effective?

Power lines

In my health class I am teaching an alcohol prevention unit called power lines. I enjoy it and it is going well, but there are a few things that I don't like. I find that it is very poorly put together in forms of student to teacher interaction. Everything is formated out and there is not a lot of room for change or unplaned involvement. The topics and are ideas are productive but we as teachers should have more free range to teach the topic.

What are some ways that I could incorperate the structured lesson, but still allow for active thinking pertaining to topics to be involved in the lesson?
